Suburban Health Organization (SHO) celebrated the completion of its’ third Physician Leadership Series (PLS), held on August 11, 2020. Nineteen physicians from Goshen Health, Hancock Health, Hendricks Regional Health, Henry Community Health, Major Health Partners, and Witham Health Services successfully completed the series.
The PLS introduces physicians and advanced practitioners to collaboration concepts in bringing medicine, management, and leadership skills together. It provided a well-rounded introduction to financial, strategic, and leadership topics. The series included eight sessions over a 20-month period. National and local guest speakers presented on physician leadership, finance, emotional intelligence, informatics, population health, risk management, patient safety, value-based purchasing, human resources, health law, continuous improvement, and negotiation. The third series was conducted from February 2019 to August 2020. Amidst the COVID-19 Pandemic, the April and June sessions were combined and held virtually in August to accommodate all participants, keeping safety in mind. In addition to engaging in this interactive series, participants worked in teams to develop outstanding quality improvement projects to benefit their hospitals, thus improving patient outcomes. These projects were presented virtually to an audience of their peers, hospital CEOs, and other healthcare leaders.
The quality improvement projects included:
Physician Leadership Series RAF Score Optimization by Team Hancock
- Avoidable and Unavoidable ER Utilization by Patients on Systemic Therapy for Cancer by Team Goshen
- Early Lung Cancer Detection by Team Hendricks and Witham
- Implementation of an Educational Program for Major Health Partners Providers on the Use of Hierarchical Condition Categories (HCC), with a Focus on Peripheral Vascular Disease and Impact of Reimbursement by Team Major
