Dr. Ray Ingham, former President of Witham Health Services, was the recipient of the prestigious Sagamore of the Wabash Award. The Sagamore of the Wabash Award is presented to those who are “distinguished by their humanity and living, their loyalty and friendship, wisdom and counsel and their inspiration and leadership.” “Sagamore” was a term used by native American tribes of Indiana (and other tribes of the northeastern United States) to describe a lesser chief or a great man among the tribe whom the chief consulted for wisdom and advice. “The Wabash” makes reference to Indiana’s official state river. Recipients of the distinguished award have been astronauts, presidents, politicians, ambassadors, artists, musicians, and ordinary citizens who have contributed greatly to our Hoosier heritage. Dr. Ingham was recognized for his leadership and outstanding impact and legacy on health care for the state of Indiana.
