myVirtualHealthVisit is a telehealth service offered through a partnership between several Suburban Health Organization (SHO) hospitals and American Well.

Hospitals involved in the partnership offering telehealth services for their patients include Hancock Health, Hendricks Regional Health, Henry Community Health, Johnson Memorial Health, Major Health Partners, Margaret Mary Health, Riverview Health, Rush Memorial Hospital, and Witham Health Services. SHO is a partnership of Central Indiana Hospitals that work together to promote quality, efficiency and patient access. SHO supports the hospitals through the development of strategic initiatives and a variety shared services. myVirtualHealthVisit is one way these hospitals work together to positively impact the health of their patients and communities.

What is myVirtualHealthVisit?
The myVirtualHealthVisit platform gives Central Indiana residents a new way to talk with a provider using audio and video technology. Several SHO hospitals have partnered with American Well to offer these visits to their patients in order to bring convenient and quality care to their local communities in a new way.

It provides an easy way to connect with a live provider when it works with your schedule, and as healthcare needs arise. Do you have sick child who needs attention after typical office hours? Are you not able to get away from the office? Providers are available to answer questions 24/7. You can access a provider in your car, office, or the comfort of your home. A virtual health visit eliminates time traveling to the emergency room or urgent care, or waiting for an appointment at a doctor's office, and in many cases it costs less.

What can I use myVirtualHealthVisit for?
myVirtualHealthVisit can be used for adults and children experiencing common conditions such as:

  • Joint Pain or Strains
  • Lower Back Pain
  • Pink Eye
  • Rashes and other Minor Skin Problems

How do I access myVirtualHealthVisit?
The key requirements are a camera-equipped phone, tablet or computer connected to the Internet.

For phone or tablet, you will need to download the app to the device you'll use for your visit. You can do that at either of the links here:


For camera-enabled desktop or laptop computer, you'll need to browse to www.myvirtualhealthvisit.org. 

Once you have downloaded and launched the app or browsed to www.myvirtualhealthvisit.org, you'll need to create an account. This is where you'll list your symptoms, health information, and insurance coverage, if applicable. This information will be stored in your account for easy reference during future visits.

After your account has been created, you will choose which SHO hospital to utilize. You will then see a list of available providers. You will be able to browse the providers, their wait times (if any), and select the provider you'd like to see. You'll talk with this provider about your symptoms, generally for about 10 minutes. Based on that conversation, the provider will give you follow up instructions and if necessary send a prescription to your pharmacy. You will receive a summary of your visit via email. The summary can also be accessed within the app for future reference.

What is the cost?
Each visit is $49. You may have received a coupon code from your doctor's office, hospital, or employer that you may be able to utilize to reduce the cost for your visit.

Can I use myVirtualHealthVisit if I don't have a smart phone?
You can. As long as you have a phone, desktop, or tablet with video and audio capabilities you'll be able to see a provider for your virtual visit. We recommend testing what you have available prior to the appointment to make sure everything is working correctly.

Is my information secure?
Along with your care, your privacy is very important to us. All information that you provide when enrolling, including your credit card and personal health details, is secure. Your doctor visit is private and protected and follows HIPAA guidelines for patient safety and confidentiality.

What kind of prescriptions can I get?
Providers accessible via myVirtualHealthVisit will prescribe medication applicable for your individual diagnosis in accordance with applicable Indiana laws.

Will I see my regular doctor?
myVirtualHealthVisit is staffed by American Well's Online Care Group clinicians who specialize in urgent care, family practice, emergency medicine, internal medicine or pediatrics. All of the providers are certified and credentialed according to NCQA standards. In time, you may be able to see your regular doctor or another provider affiliated with your hospital or provider's office.

What if I can't be diagnosed over the video chat?
myVirtualHealthVisit providers are able to treat the majority of common complaints mentioned above, but there are some symptoms where a physical visit will be necessary to complete a diagnosis. There may also be a need for additional tests or follow up activity best completed in a provider's office or the hospital. The myVirtualHealthVisit provider will advise as to the most appropriate next steps.
