Suburban Health Organization Risk Retention Group, LLC (SHO RRG) is an insurance company formed and operated under the Federal Liability Risk Retention Act. The SHO RRG has been chartered in South Carolina and is authorized to write business in Indiana and is recognized by the Indiana Patient Compensation Fund.

The Affiliated Physician Program is available to all physicians and ancillary providers affiliated with any of the eight Suburban owners:

  • Hancock Regional Hospital
  • Hendricks Regional Health
  • Henry County Hospital
  • Johnson Memorial Hospital
  • Major Hospital
  • Riverview Hospital
  • Rush Memorial Hospital
  • St. Vincent Health
  • Community Westview Hospital
  • Witham Health Services

Insurance written through the APP will be either on a claims-made form or with the option of a modified claims-made form (pre paid tail). The limits will be $250,000 per incident and $750,000 annual aggregate. These limits will be modified as needed to remain consistent with the limits defined under the Indiana Patient Compensation Fund. Quotes will include both the premium due to the SHO RRG and the surcharge required by the Indiana Patients Compensation Fund. SHO RRG will qualify providers with the Indiana Patients Compensation Fund and handle all required interfaces on behalf of participating or covered physicians.

In addition to the limits of liability, legal defense will be managed through and paid for by SHO RRG. Since the SHO RRG is owned by several Suburban hospitals, it has been designed with our providers’ best interests in mind. Our consent to settle philosophy states that settlement authority remains with the physician through medical panel and reverts to SHO RRG only if a negative panel decision is rendered. At that point we would want to discuss strategy going forward with the covered physician/group in an attempt to mutually agree on the best course of action.

Federal law requires every insured in an RRG must be an owner and every owner must be an insured. A physician or medical practice entity purchasing coverage through the APP will become an owner of SHO RRG by executing a Subscription Agreement and making a capital contribution. The capital contribution has been set at $500 per physician (not to exceed $5,000 for a medical practice entity) and is only refundable if the physician (or medical practice entity) remains in the program for at least 3 years.
